Themistoklis Sapsis is the William I. Koch Professor and Director of the Center for Ocean Engineering in the department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT. Prior to joining MIT’s Mechanical Engineering department, Sapsis was an Assistant Research Scientist at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at NYU.
Along with his research group, Prof. Sapsis focuses on developing analytical, computational, and data-driven methods for the probabilistic prediction and quantification of extreme events in high-dimensional nonlinear systems such as turbulent fluid flows and nonlinear mechanical systems.
