David Gamarnik named IMS Fellow

IDSS faculty member David Gamarnik, Nanyang Technological University Professor of Operations Research at MIT Sloan School of Management, has been named Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS). Gamarnik received the award for contributions to discrete probability, including the theory of random graphs, algorithms and computations, as well as queueing theory.

Gamarnik’s research interests include probability, theory of random graphs, optimization and algorithms, statistics and machine learning, stochastic processes, and queueing theory. He is a recipient of a 2022 AMS Fellowship and 2021 INFORMS Fellowship, the Erlang Prize and the Best Publication Award from the INFORMS Applied Probability Society, the IBM Faculty Partnership Award as well as several NSF-sponsored grants.

The designation of IMS Fellow has been an honor for almost 90 years. Each Fellow has demonstrated distinction in research in statistics or probability or has demonstrated leadership that has profoundly influenced the field. Each Fellow nominee is assessed by a committee of their peers for the award.

Created in 1935, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics is a member organization that fosters the development and dissemination of the theory and applications of statistics and probability.
