Whitney Newey

Ford Professor

Whitney Newey is Ford Professor of Economics at MIT and a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the Econometric Society. He is also a Fellow of the International Association of Applied Econometrics, of CEMP at Jinan University, and an International Fellow of CEMMAP at University College London.

Newey was named a 2020 Distinguished Fellow by the American Economic Association. He has been a Fellow of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences and received a Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship. He has served as co-editor of Econometrica, as program co-chair for the 2005 World Congress of the Econometric Society, on the Executive Committee of the Econometric Society.

Current research interests include debiased machine learning of structural and causal parameters, inference in regression with many included regressors, and economic demand models with general heterogeneity.
